Man accused of killing girlfriend, taking children is caught in Texas

Posted: Updated:
A Metairie man accused of killing his girlfriend and kidnapping three of her five children was caught Monday.

Police issued a warrant for the arrest of 43-year-old Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas on the charge of Second-Degree Murder. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office, Monterroso-Navas is in the country illegally. Police say that he may also go by the name Wilson Rigoberto Mina.

Pedro Alberto Monterosso-Navas, 43, of Honduras, was arrested in a trailer park in Katy, Texas. The children, ages 12, 4 and 2, were found unharmed and are now in the custody of Texas authorities.

Investigators learned of Monterosso-Navas' whereabouts after one of the kidnapped children spoke by phone to a female friend in Katy. The mother of the friend then called 911 to provide information about Monterosso-Navas' location.

Monterroso-Navas faces a charge of second-degree murder in the killing that took place early Sunday morning in the 4000 block of Durand Street. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office initially said the 25-year-old victim died of blunt force trauma, but a statement released this morning said she was stabbed to death.

The victim, whose name is not being released until family members are notified, was found after two children who were left behind knocked on a neighbor's door at about 3:35 a.m. and said their mother needed help, according to Sheriff Newell Normand. Those children are currently with the Department of Child and Family Services.

The Sheriff's Office did not say when Monterroso-Navas would be brought back to Louisiana.
