SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

Two local teens face criminal charges following an accidental shooting at a west Shreveport home Saturday afternoon.

It happened just before 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening, at a home in the 3600 block of Valley Ridge Road.

Officers arrived to find a 15-year-old male suffering a single gunshot wound to the right hand.

The victim, whose injuries were considered to be non life-threatening, was transported by the Shreveport Fire Department to University Health Medical Center.

Shreveport Police Violent Crimes detectives immediately initiated an investigation into the matter.

Police say the victim, along with a 14-year-old acquaintance, were inside the home handling a semi-automatic handgun when the weapon discharged, striking the 15-year-old in the hand.

Authorities say the 15-year-old was carrying the weapon on his person prior to the shooting, and decided to show the weapon to the 14-year-old and other juveniles who were gathered at the home when the shooting happened.

No other injuries were reported.

The weapon used in the shooting was seized by officers at the scene and submitted as evidence.

Both involved juveniles were arrested and charged for their alleged roles in the shooting.

The 14-year-old juvenile was charged with a single count of Illegal Use of a Weapon and booked into the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center.

The 15-year-old was charged with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon and following his release from treatment, will be booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Center.
