Carter Toms hoping for better finish than start at Dad's tournament

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La - David Toms and his foundation are hosting the American Junior Golf Association tournament at Southern Trace this week. This is the third year of the event, which has brought nearly 100 top junior golfers from across the country to Shreveport. Jacob Wyatt of Bossier City got off to a great start, teeing off at number 10, but then struggled on his back nine. Wyatt shoots 5-over, 77.

And David Toms' son Carter had back-to-back birdies on 8 and 9, before struggling coming in.  He too shoots 5-over 77. "I just couldn't get anything going the whole day.  Every time I felt like I could get something going I hit a bad drive or a bad second shot.  I just didn't play too good, but I got another opportunity tomorrow.. I can go low and get right back in the tournament going in to Thursday.”

Top round of the day belongs to Brandon Smith of Frisco, Texas.  He shoots 6-under, 66. Round two of three tomorrow.
