East Texas families with quintuplets bond through diapers

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -  The Seals family from Maud, TX stole our hearts in March when proud mother Michelle delivered quintuplets - four girls and one boy!

But, there is another family in east Texas who shares a special bond with the Seals with their own set of five -- the Bryant family of Hallsville.

KTBS was there nine years ago when Darcy Bryant delivered three girls and two boys. And, now Darcy is reaching out to the new set of quints.

Darcy remembers back to the first two years as a mother of quintuplets. It's been a long but happy road.

"It's wonderful. There's so many highs and then there's a lot of lows. At first when they're born, we just went through the lack of sleep. It was extremely hard on us," said Darcy.

The quints needed constant care from the very beginning. Darcy remembers friends and family streaming through her home each day to help.

Every age seems to come with it's own struggles as they prepare to enter fourth grade.

"Now as they've gotten older they do sleep through the night. It's now a different set of issues. Here lately we've been working on multiplication facts times five and reading times five and then you have the laundry and the meals," said Darcy.

Austin, Mackenzie, Kaitlyn, Peyton and Caleb have developed their own personalities and talents.

Each one is so different from the other and now they have a five-year-old little sister, Olivia, to share the fun.

"I like doing gymnastics," said Mackenzie.

"I like to play basketball," said Caleb.

They are blessed.

The Bryant's beautiful home was built for them at cost, Enfamil donated formula and the quints already have scholarships for college from East Texas Baptist University.

Life wouldn't be possible without a whole lot of help from the community.

"God chose us and he didn't leave us. He put people in our path to help us and encourage us and we are very grateful for that.

That's why Darcy and her family are reaching out to a new set of quintuplets in Maud, TX, and their parents Michelle and Steven Seals.

She is organizing a diaper drive to collect donations for four month old babies: Brant, Tessa, Mia, Gracie and Rayleigh.

"We went through 35 diapers a day. That is a lot of diapers. I just want people to think about the decision that Michelle made. She could have chosen reduction and she didn't," said Darcy.

It's a tough decision that Darcy made herself nine years ago and she has never regretted.

"I love being their mom. I really feel like God chose me to be their mom and it's an honor," said Darcy.

Darcy's husband Craig wasn't home for the interview with KTBS because he was working. In fact, he works multiple jobs.

His efforts to provide financially for a family of eight, along with help from the community, have made it possible for Darcy to stay home full-time with the kids.

The diaper drive for the Seals family kicks off this Friday and runs through Monday at these locations:
