TISD discusses facility needs for increased enrollment

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, Texas -

Texarkana, Texas ISD is looking to expand their facilities to make room for increased enrollment.

A second public meeting was held Wednesday morning to discuss future facility needs.

Right now, capacity already exceeds 100 percent at two campuses.

TISD officials would like to build a new 6th Grade Center at Texas Middle School and a new elementary campus.

There are currently eight elementary campuses in the school district.

TISD Superintendent Paul Norton says the best way to pay for improvements would be through a bond issue.

"If we weren't able to build a new campus we would have to find ways to accommodate the kids. The need doesn't go away if we don't pass a bond issue or we don't do anything" explained Norton.

If board members decide to call a bond issue for the November election, then they would have to call it by August 18th.

The last time TISD had a bond issue pass that raised taxes was in 1982.
