Whatever It Takes; Elysian Fields in pursuit of improved season

Posted: Updated:
ELYSIAN FIELDS, Tx. - Elysian Fields followed up a state-semifinalist appearance with a 3-7 record last season. But now in their second year under head coach Scott Ford, the Yellow Jackets are ready to return to form.

"Really well, I'm a lot more comfortable being here with the kids for a full year, a full offseason. We've got quite a few returning starters coming back so we're excited about the opportunities," said Ford.

"Yes, this is a very different team. We have more potential, we're more on top of the game. We've just got to get our positions right because it's all coming together pretty good," added senior receiver and linebacker Tramell Hudson.

Elysian Fields has even adopted a new attitude that they hope will bring around change.

"Whatever it takes, you know, you're going to give your all. You're going to do whatever it takes to be successful," explained Hudson.

"Well, when we started offseason, I had a lot better idea of our returning starters and our football team then I had when I started last August obviously. I just felt like for us to make a leap, to be a playoff team, each kid and each coach has got to be willing to do whatever it takes," described Ford.

"Whatever it takes to get to a state championship, lift weights, do everything as hard as you can go, 100 percent and successful," added sophomore quarterback and safety Logan Hughes.

And the Jackets hope they do have what it takes to return to the state championship in 2014.

LSU has been home to plenty of staunch defenses over the years, but it wasn't since 1985 that a Tiger defense recorded back-to-back shutouts until Saturday night.
