Pryor defends campaign ad invoking Ebola outbreak

Posted: Updated:
Democratic U.S. Senator Mark Pryor is defending his campaign TV ad that invokes the Ebola outbreak to criticize his Republican rival over medical disaster funding, saying he doesn't view it as a scare tactic.

Pryor told reporters Wednesday that he believed the new ad shows that votes have consequences. The 30-second spot, which began airing during the weekend, criticizes Republican U.S. Representative Tom Cotton for opposing legislation reauthorizing pandemic preparedness programs and features news clips about the Ebola outbreak.

Cotton's campaign has ridiculed the ad and says it ignores a vote Cotton cast for a later version of the bill.

More than 1,400 people in West Africa have been killed by Ebola. Health officials say an outbreak in the U.S. is unlikely.
