Texas A&M Texarkana Opens New Campus
It's a historic day for Texas A&M Texarkana. The four-year university started today with it's first freshman class on a brand new campus. Texas Governor Rick Perry joined a packed crowd to welcome the freshman class and open the Bringle Lake campus. Perry spoke about the state's new K-12 grade initiative, as well as, some new innovations being made in online education.
Texas A&M Texarkana has enrolled almost 1,800 students this fall. Most of the students in the freshman class are from the Texarkana area. All of the freshman will attend classes on the new Bringle Lake campus. So far, there are two new buildings. Many students have also signed up to be in the new dormitories scheduled for completion next fall.
University officials say they will be extending the late registration date for the fall semester.
