they may have campaigned against each other last year .. but now the've put that behind them .. and are working together. ktbs 3's julie parr has the story... new at 6. last fall, sheriff larry rowe .. who ran as a republican .. defeated roy barker .. who ran as a democrat. then in a unique turn of events, rowe hired barker to fill the chief deputy position. if it hadn't been a clean race it probably wouldn't have happened, but i wouldn't have hired him if he wasn't qualified and he's really quailified .. he does a great job. it was a tight race .. with rowe winning by with just over 13-hundred votes. barker says he's looking forward to working with the new sheriff. when i lost and got the opportunity to serve the people in a different position it was a win-win situation. last week, barker ended a longtime career as an investigator for the bowie county district attorney's office. rowe has served as cass county's game warden for 29 years. both say they know the people of cas county. i think the people voted for me and the ones who voted for him . we've got the whole county behind us. sheriff rowe says some of his goals for the department include upgrading equipment, taking an aggressive stance against drugs in the county, and negotiating a better deal for transfering county inmates. if we save 4 dollars a day per inmate over time that's quite a bit of money. rowe says one of the main priorities is the jail .. which has become overcrowed. eventually we're going to have to add on to the jail for our women prisoners .. we don't have any room at all fo women .. and that's a quick goal. julie parr, ktbs three news. sheriff rowe says he now has a full staff of officers .. and is confident that they're teamwork and experience will continue to make cass county as safer place to work and live. the new city manager for the city of texarkana, texas has laid out
