Columbia Street Murders 1-3-13
days into 20- 13... and shreveport authorities are investigating what may be the city's first homicide case of the year ... and it may be a double homicide. ktbs 3's erin buchanan joins us now with the very latest. erin... what can you tell us? gerry -- investigators are looking into exactly what happened to 57-year-old stephen bryan... and 49-year- old madonna dean wachter. what we do know -- is that tragedy has struck very early in the year for two local families. it's kind of freaky that something like that happens right by yr house. the sunny morning quickly turned dark.. when a relative came to this home in the 200 block of columbia stret.. to check on her sister -- who hadn't shown up for work. what she found inside.. was nothing short of a nightmare. the door was apparently unlocked, she entered the home and found two people inside the home who had apparently been injured. shreveport police say the couple was found shot to death... and neighbors say recent activity at the home may lead investigators to a motive. there's been a lot of traffic coming in and out of the house and i suspect that, with the traffic that comes in and out of the house, that had something to do with the shooting. he would sometimes be outside doing stuff in the front yard but i don't think they were too friendly to people. laura hockenberry and her mother -- cathey carey -- live across the street in the ordinarily quiet neighborhood. we did not hear a thing. we did not hear a thing. but we live in a big old house and if we're in the back, we wouldn't hear anything. neighbors say the couple mostly kept to themselves... but speculate the two may have been involved in some dangerous activity. he kind of freaked me out, honestly, so i just didn't really want to talk to him. sources say that a tenant who leased a garage apartment behind the home... heard booms overnight... but thought they were fireworks. and gerry -- sources also tell us that the home was not ransacked... which may be a sign that this was not a random act of violence. thanks erin. investigators are still talking to neighbors -- and potential witnesses -- in order to identify a suspect. if you have information... you're asked to call crime stoppers. stay with ktbs -- and ktbs dot com -- for the latest. an arkansas man -- accused of first degree murder in the death of a magnolia
