ktbs 3's julie parr spoke with some of the local authors.. ..new at 6. at first it was like okay i'm in a book, and then it dawned on me .. i'm in a book. 11-year old rachel nadeau is one of 30 child authors to participate in writing the new book "dream catchers." it's ben compiled into short inspirational stories. somehow maria thought she'd meet the principal that day. 9-year old camile janes also wrote a story about acceptance and making new friends. her mother, jennifer says she's sen te bok ignite a pasion for writing in her daughter. it's been exciting for her to have something in her hands to show the work she did and how she got to be apart of this project. each book costs 10 dollars .. and all of the profits are being donated to saint jude children's research hospital in memphis. local author tammy thompson organized the book project in conjuction with the annual fall gathering of authors. she says it really is "kids helping kids" through literacy. i think if these kids can get encouragement to keep writing, and they can help other kids who need treatment .. i think it's a win- win. the book is about 200 pages long .. and is written completely by area children. makeme feel good that i can help the children. a bunch of people in my family had died from cancer, so i know how it is to lose someone to that type of thing, it's really cool that i get to help out with it. julie parr, ktbs three news. all of the selected book authors were part of a local writing contest.
