plaza. the shreveport city council... and the red river waterway commission have agreed to a cooperative endeavor agreement... to fund the proposed dog park in the city of shreveport. but that's still not enough. the story is new at six with nick caloway. nick... a lot of people have been talking about this for months now. the money is there... but the dog park is still on hold. because of this standoff between the council and the mayor. that's right. because from his hospital bed... mayor cedric glover is still standing in the way of shreveport's first dog park. aside from the wind... it's been a pretty quiet day at hamel memorial park. but animal lovers are still trying to make it sound more like... this. the red river waterway has signed off on the cooperative endeavor agrement.. to earmark 280- thousand dollars for construction of a dog park along the riverfront. but after two unanimous council votes. stil mayor cedric glover has not acepted the money. "According to the terms of the city charter, he doesn't get a second veto." councilman jeff everson says the council has forwarded the agreement to the mayor. along with a ter asking for anexlaination if fes to sign. ofeel like the yor is not doing hisb, acording to the ty charter?"e we just haven't ard. We havet heard back." "He's compelled to gn it now. And he hast. So it's n a feeling, it's ft"My primary concern isnot necessarily the dog park, ray, butat kind of precedent it sets for future ministratns." COUNCILMAN OLIVER jenkins says he's worried about the implications... of having a mayor who choses which legislation to enact... regardless of council vote. "So that, to me, is a broader issue that has enourmous implications for the city and the way we govern here." but with the mayor stonewalling the council... the next step might be a courtroom. cynthia keith with the shreveport dog park alliance... says she hopes to stay on the high road. but a lawsuit is not out of the question. "But if he absolutely refuses to do what the citizens and the city council wants him to do, we might have to look at our legal options." mayor glover has been adamently against taking money from the waterway commission for the dog park... saying the dog park is competing against the city for the same funds. but we're told that the 280-thousand dollars earmarked for the dog park... will not go anywhere. so if the mayor keeps stonewalling... then it may ultimately be up to whomever is elected the next mayor of shreveport... in two years. mayor glover is still at christus schumpert hospital... recovering from a leg injury that occurred last month. we once again requested an interview from the mayor... that request was denied. we did get a statement from his office. saying quote- "the mayr's position on the proposed dog park hasn't changed and he's moved on to the discusion about fixing shreveport's strets." thanks nick. we wanted to know what you tnk
