Juicy Sounding For Storms
POSTED: 6:22 pm CDT July 27, 2010This morning's weather balloon data from the Shreveport National Weather Service and www.rap.ucar.edu showed a potentially unstable atmosphere ripe for afternoon storms provided temperatures at least warmed into the upper 80s (convective temperature) and some boundaries helped instigate storms.Well, that occurred again this afternoon. Some storms even became severe (pulse type) with hail, gusty winds and very heavy rain plus lots of cloud to ground lightning. Our upper low in NW TX and the upper ridge in the SE US helped funnel up more tropical moisture into the ArkLaTex. Mid level temperatures were still lower than the other day due to the proximity of the two weather features.Tomorrow, this scenario happens again although the upper low moves farther to the west and the upper ridge starts to nudge back in. Thus mid level temps rise and the upper part of the atmosphere drys some (instability goes down as does the CAPE or storm energy). Our rain chance drops. This is a sign of things to come as the upper ridge takes over heating us up close to 100 late this week (once the ground moisture evaporates).Stay tuned to KTBS 3 News for updates to this forecast.
