SHREVEPORT, La. -

Home grown food appears to be a growing trend across the country including here in the south.  Farmer's markets are becoming popular due to the availability of locally raised, fresh and pesticide free fruits and vegetables.

Now, some folks in Texas are including wild, local game in their daily diets.  They insist the game provide safer meats that are antibiotic and growth harmone free.

Drought over the past few years has spurred home grown food due to high prices and low availability at the grocery stores.

Wild game numbers are down since 2010 in the drought stricken areas like in Texas, but are making a comeback especially with recent rains allowing their food to regenerate.

Numerous chefs are popping up these days taking advantage of the home grown trend.  Also, classes are being taught on wild game food preparation.

So, if you want to try this new way of eating...the Farmer's Market is back open at Festival Plaza in Shreveport on Saturday's.  Also, deer season is underway.

Enjoy!
