SHREVEPORT, La. -

The fourteenth named storm of the 2012 hurricane season has formed in the Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical Storm Nadine formed early on Wednesday morning as an area of showers and storms became better organized in the central Atlantic.

The storm was packing 45 mph sustained winds and was moving west-northwest at 17 mph. It was located about midway between the lesser Antilles and the Cape Verde islands.

Nadine is forecast to become a Category 1 Hurricane by Friday.

The system is expected to drift to the northwest and then veer to the northeast as it wraps around a broad area of high pressure in the mid Atlantic Ocean.

Nadine is not expected to pose a threat to land over the next several days.
