Bossier City is taking steps to make sure they are equipped to handle any possible mass tragedy. The fire department is set to ask for money to buy an armored ambulance.
The armored ambulance itself will cost roughly $344,000. An extra $10,000 will be needed for equipment and supplies that will go into the vehicle. Bossier City Public Information Officer Mark Natale said the money will come from the EMS capital contingency fund.
"It would certainly be beneficial, given the situations that we see fire departments across the country having to respond to, particularly the active shooter situations. The fire department doesn't ever want to be in a position where we wish we had something like this," said Natale.
Council will not make a second and final reading on the proposed ordinance until November 7th.
