SHREVEPORT, La. - After 37 years and nine months, Chief Pat Dyas is retiring from the Shreveport Fire Department.
Close friends and locals were invited to attend her retirement celebration held June 6 from 11 am to 1 pm at Northwest Louisiana Technical College.
When invitees first entered the room where the celebration took place, two picture frames that included Dyas's picture were set on the able. Attendees of the celebration were able to wish her a happy retirement through their written words of encouragement and gratitude on the picture frame.
Family, friends and members of the Shreveport community mingled while eating refreshments and enjoyed a slideshow showcasing photographs of Dyas during her younger days serving with the Shreveport Fire Department.
A few important things about Dyas's 37 years of service she would like to be remembered for are her dedication, the love for her job and the love for her community.
On October 1, 1999, she was prompted and duly served as the Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention making her the first female to become Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention. On August 2, 2011 she was further promoted to her position as Chief of Fire Prevention making her the first female to head up the Fire Prevention Division, first black female to head up a Division of the Shreveport Fire Department.
