During the month of April, Centenary College in Shreveport is inviting the public to celebrate Sexual Assault Awareness Month. 

Students and staff members opened Sexual Assault Awareness Month on April 1 by organizing a "1 in 5 Campaign" awareness event to educate attendees on the statistics of women being sexually assaulted. 

KTBS 3 News spoke with Heather Boucher, the Detective with Centenary Police, about the need to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month on a college campus.

More events to educate students and the public on sexual assault will take place throughout the month on Centenary's campus:

April 10

"It Happened Here" - a film screening at 6:00pm in the Whited Room hosted by Project Celebration

"Carry the Weight" Candlelight Walk & Vigil at 8:00pm in the Student Union Building hosted by DPS

Teal Walk Fun Run - 1 Mile at 10:00am at the Main Campus Entrance hosted by DPS

National Denim Day - photo opportunity at 4:00pm at the Centenary Quad hosted by DPS
