SHREVEPORT, La. - A youth league of eight-year-old baseball players within the Shreveport Dixie Youth Baseball Association that played all season were chosen as the All-Star Team to compete for the '2019 Dixie Youth AA Machine Pitch World Series Championship' title in Ruston during July 28-30, 2019.
The youth baseball stars played through the district tournament, state tournament and world series, and they came out as the world series champions.
Tonight, the association honored their eight-year-old players for their activities this summer at Rose Park Baptist Church in Shreveport.
"Dixie Youth Baseball covers 11 states, so they were competing against all 11 states; so, they came out on top," said Dixie Youth Baseball National Director Randy Cantrell.
Cantrell says this will give the boys the hope and desire to go on and play baseball throughout their upcoming years, and it's a great way for the players to earn scholarships through Dixie Youth Baseball.
