7 charged with child porn

BOSSIER CITY, La. -- A member assigned to the 2nd Bomb Wing is one of seven men arrested last week on child pornography charges.

Barksdale Air Force Base officials didn’t immediately release the airman’s name, but followed up hours later with a revised news release. In the meantime, confirmed the airman is 31-year-old Staff Sgt. Grant Whipple of the 1300 block of Parkway Circle in Bossier City.

Whipple is charged with 75 counts of pornography involving juveniles. He’s held on a $250,000 bond.

“BAFB officials are fully cooperating with local law enforcement on this case. The case is currently under investigation,” according to a statement released Monday.

The arrests of Whipple, a Caddo Parish high school coach, four other Bossier City men and a Sabine Parish man were part of an investigation conducted by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office and other area law enforcement agencies.

KTBS on Wednesday reported the arrest of James Allen Opie, 33, of the 3000 block of Akard Avenue in Shreveport, Opie, a football coach and teacher at Byrd High School, remains behind bars on a $100,000 bond. He was arrested on one count of pornography involving juveniles.

Opie is on paid administrative leave, per Caddo Parish School Board policy.

Also arrested last week were the following:

  • Leroy Hofmeister, 69, of the 2100 block of Mockingbird Lane in Bossier City, possession of pornography involving juveniles. Bond set at $100,000.
  • William Talley, 38, of the 800 block of Applewood Trail in Haughton, five counts of pornography involving juveniles. Bond is set at $250,000.
  • Waylon Brown, 21, of the 900 block of Hickory Drive in Plain Dealing, 20 counts of pornography involving juveniles. Bond is set at $250,000.
  • Christopher Ritter, 47, of the 2200 block of Loreco St. in Bossier City, 20 counts of pornography involving juveniles. Bond set at $250,000.

Arrested in Sabine Parish was:

  • Dustin Crow, 30, of the 100 block of Manshack Drive in Noble, three counts of first-degree rape and indecent behavior with juveniles, one count of sexual battery.

Crow and his wife, Samantha Crow, 30, also of Noble, were arrested on July 31 in Sabine Parish. Dustin Crow was charged with 106 counts of possessing pornography involving juveniles, 11 counts of producing pornography involving juveniles under age 13, eight counts of distributing pornography involving juveniles under age 13, two counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and one count each of sexual battery and first-degree rape.

Samantha Crow was arrested on one count each of producing pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13, distributing pornography under the age of 13, indecent behavior with a juvenile under the age of 13 and 2 counts of first degree rape of juvenile under the age of 13.

The Crows are in the Sabine Parish Jail.
