BARKALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. - Barksdale Air Force Base could be one step closer to starting their own charter school. The issue is back on the agenda for today's Bossier Parish School Board Meeting.
The Barksdale Global Power Museum Association (BGPM) is now in its final year of a two year extension of a type 1 charter issued by the BPSB. BGPM is the organization overseeing the charter school. They expect that the BPSB will consider either renewing or rejecting the charter.
According to BGPMA President Terry Snook, BPSB made several changes since the original charter was granted like "school of choice" which was made available to on base families. The housing on the Barksdale East reservation was also rezoned to Haughton schools.
"Both of these changes have made a huge improvement in the quality of life for Barksdale families and their school age children. The BGMPA is sincerely grateful to the BPSB for making these meaningful improvements. We understand that both required considerable commitment and effort to bring about."
