The Caddo Parish School Board has named Kristi Young, a 13-year school system veteran, principal at Booker T. Washington in Shreveport.

Young has been an assistant principal at Green Oaks High School since 2012. Before that, she was a teacher at Woodlawn and Green Oaks. She joined the school system in 2003.

She holds a bachelor's degree in social studies education from Grambling State University and a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She is pursuing a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

On Tuesday, parents and supporters of Booker T. Washington shared what they would like to see in a principal during a meeting with system officials.

The historic high school hasn't had a principal since 2014, when Principal Stacey Russell resigned amid a grade-changing scandal.

Retired Caddo educator Carter Bedford filled in as principal from Russell's retirement until this year.
