Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 3 at Magnolia Chase Lane that claimed the lives of two Bossier Parish residents. It happened just before 6:00 pm on Saturday evening.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2000 Toyota Camry operated by 18-year-old Katie Bell of Benton was traveling south on LA 3 when for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median, and collided head-on with a 2002 Hyundia Accent operated by 68-year-old Roger Erickson of Plain Dealing.
Both drivers sustained fatal injuries during the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Bossier Parish Coroner. Erickson was not restrained at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis, but impairment is not suspected. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
