SHREVEPORT, La. - Sheriff's deputies in Caddo parish are investigating a fatal head-on collision Friday night on Hwy. 1 in north Caddo Parish.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office has identified the man killed as Nathan Zachary Tarr, 33, of Shreveport.
Around 11 p.m., deputies attempted to stop Tarr for traffic violations and possible impairment.
Deputies say Tarr was driving a van north on Hwy. 1 near Hwy. 538 traveling approximately 10 mph.
According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, Tarr refused to stop and approached a 4-way split in the highway, he turned around and began traveling into the southbound lane while heading north before hitting speeds upwards of 60 miles per hour.
Soon after, he struck a southbound Chevy Malibu head-on.
Tarr was declared dead on scene.
The female driver of the Malibu was trapped inside her vehicle until the fire department arrived on scene and were able to use the Jaws of Life could to cut her free from the car.
She was taken by Life Air to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport for treatment of her injuries.
Her condition is unknown at this time.
