SHREVEPORT, La. - Funeral arrangements for an Elysian Fields Middle School student, who died last week, have been set.
The public viewing for 11-year-old Ma'Kala Williams will be Saturday at 11 a.m. The funeral will begin at noon. Both will be at New Boggy Baptist Church in Bethany.
Williams is being remembered throughout Harrison County. On Friday, students and faculty from Waskom, Marshall, Karnack and other surrounding school districts wore orange in Ma'kala's memory.
Ma'kala was a sixth grader, who took her own life, her father, Ladarien Williams said.
In an exclusive interview with KTBS, Williams and other family members believe bullying played a factor. He hopes people can learn from the tragedy.
"I'd like to say Makala was very loving," Williams said. "She was very beautiful, very smart. She was always a peacemaker. She was always there for everyone."
"This is hard. I don't want it to happen to anyone else's child, Williams said. "I don't want it to happen to anyone. I want this to be a learning experience for everyone."
A Go-Fund-Me page has been created for Makala's family and her memorial.
