BECKVILLE, Texas - A 21-year-old Gary man was killed Thursday after his car skidded off the road and into several trees, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Zackary Enoch Freeman died at the scene, DPS said.
Troopers responded to a crash around 3:27 p.m. Thursday on FM 959 about three miles south of Beckville, DPS said. A preliminary investigation showed that Freeman was driving south on the road at an unsafe speed for the light rain and wet roadway, DPS said.
When Freeman exited a curve to the left, DPS said his truck went into a side skid, went off the roadway and rolled. The truck struck several trees before coming to a stop on its right side, DPS said.
Panola County Justice of the Peace David Gray pronounced Freeman dead. Freeman's body was taken to Downs Funeral Home in Marshall.
The crash remains under investigation.
