Shreveport, LA - Sci-Port is saving a little piece of history.
The museum is preserving a cypress tree stump from a tree that was chopped down when it was 400 years old.
Lynn Beaty found the stump in the early 1990's when he and his logging crew pulled it out of the river.
"It's very unique to get to see this," Beaty said. "This tree was cut down with an axe. You can see the axe marks where they cut it down, so that means it was cut a long time ago. Then, it's laid in the water, where the water eroded the parts of the thing. The bark is gone. That means it laid in the water a long time. It was here before people came across the big pond."
The stump will be on display when Sci-Port opens more parts of the museum later this month.
