Caddo District Judge Leon Emanuel has received the appeals court-ordered presentence report on William Gourdine Jr., the former Shreveport resident given a controversial one-year jail term by Emanuel after killing a teenager in a drunk-driving accident.Emanuel has not set a sentencing date for the 44-year-old Gourdine, who faces up to 20 years in prison for vehicular homicide. The presentence report includes information about Gourdine's prior drunk-driving arrests as well as input from the victim's family.Gourdine was convicted of being drunk when his speeding SUV crashed into a car driven by 17-year-old Byrd High School student Amanda Laurenson three years ago in a Shreveport neighborhood.Emanuel originally imposed a one-year sentence -- meaning Gourdine would likely serve only a few months. He has been strongly criticized for the leniency of the sentence.Caddo prosecutors appealed and the state appeals court in Shreveport -- which said the sentence was lenient -- ordered a presentence report done and for Emanuel to consider it when he resentences Gourdine. That report includes information about three drunk-driving instances against Gourdine -- the fatal crash in Shreveport, one in South Louisiana and a third in North Carolina -- and an arrest for domestic violence.During the original sentencing, Emanuel put some of the blame for the crash on the victim because she was talking on a cell phone with her mother when the accident happened. But the appeals court ruled Gourdine was entirely responsible.Gourdine, who had been free on an appeal bond, reported to jail in January to begin serving his sentence.
