OPELOUSAS, La. - The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office has released the names of those who died in a aircraft crash Wednesday.
Officials say that the pilot, Kirk Bellard, 49, and passenger, Marcus D. Guidry, 38, both of Breaux Bridge died in the crash on a levee in the Atchafalaya Basin.
An FAA spokesman told KATC TV in Lafayette the single-engine Quicksilver Ultralight crashed around 12:15 p.m. near the St. Landry-St. Martin parish line.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said FAA investigators are on their way to the accident site, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation, the FAA spokesman said.
