Redwater ISD wins 2022 TAEA District of Distinction Award

REDWATER, Texas - The visual arts program at Redwater ISD has been named one of the best in Texas.

The Texas Art Education Association recently announced that Redwater received the District of Distinction award. Redwater ISD is one of only 13 schools in Texas to receive the award for three years in a row.

Superintendent Kelly Burns says the district's art teachers and staff work hard and creatively with students to make sure they have the very best arts education. She says they also make sure to share their students artistic gifts by creating murals for businesses, churches, and organizations.

Redwater ISD met or exceeded the Texas Art Education Association's criteria in 14 categories.

"We all know that research shows that the more involved you are in the arts, the more synapses are connected. It helps academically as well," said Burns.

Only 59 school districts in Texas received the recognition out of the more than 1,200 districts who applied. Burns says the award places their visual art program in the top 5% in Texas.

All of the winning school districts will be honored at the Texas Art Education Association's fall conference in November.
