SHREVEPORT, La. - Caddo Common Park opened Monday on Texas Avenue near Shreveport police headquarters.
This is the city's first-ever downtown urban greenspace.
The park includes a one-mile walking trail and a biosoil which is being used to help irrigate the park.
This is the first phase of a long term development for the park.
“One of those will be an outdoor performance pavilion so that things like Shakespeare in the park, dances and concerts,” executive director of Shreveport Commons Wendy Ben-Scotier said.
The pavilion is expected to be built sometime in 2020.
The city, Shreveport Common, Shreveport Regional Arts Council, major donors and grassroots for the project raised $1 million.
The Caddo Parish Commission matched with another million dollars.
