Charles Madden

Shreveport's Finance Director Charles Madden was on the hot seat at a meeting of the City Council's Audit and Finance Committee over the 2018 audit.

It looks like the days might be numbered for the City of Shreveport's Finance Director. The city council may look to oust Charles Madden.

That call comes from Councilman James Flurry, chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee. It met Monday, bringing in the city's external auditor. Partners with the accounting firm of Carr, Riggs & Ingram detailed the more than two dozen deficiencies it found in its 2018 audit of the city's finance department.

Madden was on the hot seat, trying to explain the mistakes. Many of them stemmed from what the auditors described as poor documentation and communication from the finance department. And they said mistakes were repeated from previous years.

Flurry says he may call for a vote of no confidence in Madden at the next council meeting in two weeks.

"It's got to be a new day in the finance department. And I'm going to push everything I can to see that happens this year," Flurry said.

Flurry believes he has the support. If Madden declines to step down, Flurry says the council could remove him with a majority vote.

Madden declined comment.
