Advocates demonstrated today outside the office of Congressman John Ratcliffe in Texarkana as part of a national movement to keep so-called dreamers in the u-s.
Moveon.org and other advocates are pushing congress to pass what they call a “Clean Dream Act," a pathway to citizenship or legal status for young adults who were brought to the U.S. illegally when they were children and grew up here.
The local group turned in a petition with about 120 signatures to Congressman Ratcliffe's office.
"We need to welcome these people who were born in our country that have the heart to stay here. If they're law abiding citizens we need to find a way," explained Anne Redelfs, Texarkana resident.
"They should not be punished for the actions of their parents who simply wanted to make a better life for their children," Jodi O'Connell, Moveon.org.
The DACA program now covers more than 800,000 undocumented immigrants.
