BOSSIER CITY, La. - The Northwest Louisiana 7-on-7 Charity Invitational served multiple purposes.
Not only does it help area schools work on their games, but it benefits one of their own as Airline head coach Bo Meeks incurred expenses during his battle with stomach cancer and proceeds from this event will help with that.
"Everything is good. All clear. I go back for a check-up next week," Meeks said. "I have a CT scan and a check-up with the doctor the next day so a little trip to Houston next week, but every three months just getting checked out. So really, really doing well and excited to be back."
Tournament organizer Reynolds Moore said, "To see someone who's going through that and we can be there for him and pick him up, man it was fulfilling for all of us I think to know that we contributed in some small way to helping him get through this."
When asked about the support he's received Meeks responded, "It's been a humbling experience. I can't even begin to explain what its meant for myself, but for our entire family... The coaching community, the Northwest Louisiana community, I mean just for everybody, the things they've done for our family could never be repaid.
"Just blessed, so grateful and so thankful for what they're doing for our family, for me."
The charity tournament concludes Saturday at Freedom Fields.
