PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Sam Burns finished the Valspar Championship at -17 for his first PGA Tour victory.
The former LSU golfer shot a final round 68 to win by three strokes against Keegan Bradley.
"It feels good hearing you say that, but wow what a day," Burns said about the win. "Just so many people that have helped me along the way. Really so many people to thank that just behind the scenes that people don't realize, and so I owe a lot of that to them and what a fun day and I'm really glad that we were able to get it done."
Burns had the bulk of his family there like his parents Todd and Beth, but also his wife Caroline, who shared a hug and kiss with Sam after his final putt.
"Yeah I don't think I could have dreamed of a better moment just to have me and my wife there, we've been together, not married, but together for five or six years. She's seen really good golf, she's seen really bad golf and she's just been there by my side for all of it," Burns explained.
"To have her here was really special and just a moment that we'll get to have for the rest of our lives, we'll get to tell our kids about one day."
The Shreveport native and Calvary grad had four top-ten finishes in 2021 entering this tournament.
