SHREVEPORT, La. - The press conference for the 2019 Landers Dodge Battle on the Border was held at Independence Stadium Monday the with three teams from Shreveport represented.

Four states will showcase some of their best schools and those include top programs from Florida, Georgia, Arkansas and Louisiana.

The C.E. Byrd Yellow Jackets kickoff the event Friday with fellow Pelican State program West Monroe and Jackets head coach Mike Suggs along with others shared their views on participating in this high school football extravaganza.

"Well it's a great opportunity for our football team, for our school and our program," Suggs explained. "We played against some really good ones here and of course West Monroe, everybody knows them and what type of opponent they are.

"Just to get to line up in a showcase like this with all the talent that plays in it and the teams that we get to play each year is just been, it's been very good for our program."

Woodlawn's CJ Byrd said, "I think more nerves than excitement as of right now because we're so early in the week, but as we get close to the game itself I think the excitement will start building up. Right now I just want to make sure my guys are prepared as best as I can and we're getting ready to go out there and attack the Gators."

Captain Shreve's Bryant Sepulvado added, "You know any time you do anything you want to be on the biggest stage and it doesn't get any bigger than this for high school sports.

"I mean it's one of those things that the city of Shreveport, Mayor (Adrian) Perkins and Denny Rogers at Landers Dodge, they put on a great showcase over the years. We're super excited to be involved in it and we're looking forward to exposure and looking forward to playing great competition hopefully this year and going forward."
