BENTON, La. - Bossier Parish announced a burn ban effective immediately.
Bossier Parish fire chiefs say it is because of the lack of rainfall, extreme heat and recent fires.
Bossier Parish Police Jury President Doug Rimmer issued the ban across Bossier Parish.
A majority of Bossier Parish is in a D1 - Moderate Drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor and the National Weather Service, thus creating the very dry ground and vegetative conditions. These conditions worsen if the area does not get adequate rainfall.
The dryness along with any wind conditions will have a negative impact by the increased fire threat within Bossier Parish and surrounding areas.
