SHREVEPORT, La. - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration indicates moderate to severe drought across the ArkLaTex. Most of it is north of Toledo Bend from east Texas, north Louisiana, south Arkansas up into Oklahoma.
As a result, the fire danger and the burn bans are increasing. As of Thursday September 12th, burn bans are in effect for the following counties and parishes:
Texas - Rusk, Harrison, Gregg, Marion, Upshur, Cass, Morris, Bowie, Cherokee, Smith counties.
Oklahoma - none.
Arkansas - Miller, Howard, Hempstead, Lafayette, Columbia, Nevada, Ouachita and Union counties.
Louisiana - Sabine, Union and Lincoln parishes.
Outdoor burning is prohibited in these areas until further notice.
